Man Over Board AIS locator beacon

The estimated survival time in four degree Celsius seawater is about fifteen minutes. Thus it is essential to get a man over board (MOB) back aboard as quick is possible. Even with small waves it becomes hard to see a MOB from a ship after only 2-3 waves. A personal life beacon transmits your location to any ship that may help – so you can be picked up a.s.a.p.

For rental purposes we provide you with a Kannad Marine Safelink R10 AIS Life-Beacon:

  • Transmits your location for 24 hours via the maritime Automatic Identification System (AIS) through marine VHF radio
  • Is automatically activated when your life-vest inflates
  • Shows up in the plotter / navigation computer screen of any surrounding ships
  • Marine VHF radio (AIS) gives an approximate reach of 5 nautical miles / 9 km
  • The R10 was tested in practice by WorldSat staff during an Atlantic crossing – found it to work well 😉

R10 comes with:

    1. Installation materials (clips onto life-vest tube)
    2. Protection cover

Please note:

    • An AIS life beacon does not transmit your location though satellite, but through marine VHF radio – an ‘satellite PLB’ does this, though in many situations emergency services will be too late and nearby ships cannot locate ‘satellite PLB’s’
    • The AIS life beacon shows up in the plotter / navigation computer screen of any surrounding ships
    • For non-MOB emergency’s (sinking of the ship, etc.) a ship should be equipped with a satellite EPIRB
